This week John Redwood is unveiling plans to cut regulation. Unfortunately it all sounds familiar. Somehow we hear little about working people - the Tories do not know what exactly they stand for these days but the old motivations keep coming through.
It is a little concerning that they would like to water down data protection regulation. This seems to run counter to the concerns of most people and counter to their wish to be seen as a party of civil liberties.
We need effective, not excessive, regulation. There are many companies which embrace effective health and safety regulation for example, since they do care about their employees and the long term growth of their businesses. But there are also many that discourage trade union membership and representation and have a disregard for proper regulations. We need to do more for people working in those companies.
