It was with great sadness that I received the news that Cllr Liz Atkinson died in hospital last week. Though Liz had been ill since before Christmas, this news has come as a great shock. I have known Liz since 1997 when we were both selected to stand in Oval Ward in the 1998 council elections. She worked hard for the Labour Party and for local residents for many years, both in Vauxhall and in Lambeth as a whole. She served as councillor for Vassall Ward from 2002, during which time she served as Lambeth mayor for a year. I am sure our thoughts are with Richard, Liz's husband, Kate, her daughter, and her family.
The funeral will be held on Monday, 4 February, at 3pm, in Southwark Cathedral. Tea will follow in the library.
The family would prefer no flowers. Instead they have set up a scholarship, and they would appreciate donations via the website www.lizatkinsonfund.org.uk/ .
